Some advice for those who wants to buy
a British Shorthair kitten

You have decided to buy a British shorthair cat.
What you need to know.
1. Buy a kitten only at his home.

You must see at what conditions the kitten you have selected was brought up. Look at its parents.
Make sure that the kitten is well and has no problem with health.

Never buy a kitten on the street, metro stations, pet shops etc. In all This places there is very high possibility that you will not buy a well-bred pet.

 
2. Pedigree

Cats have 4-level pedigree (Parents, Grandparents, Great-Grandparents, Great-Great Grandparents). In the pedigree you can see names and titles of your kitten ancestors. Pay attention at the abbreviation stands under the each name, it should be - BRI, that means - British Shorthair. This abbreviation must be all over the pedigree.

 
OTHER BREEDS LIKE
SHS - Scottish Fold, CHAR - Chartreux, EXO - Exotic, PER - Persian
are inadmissible in pedigree.
If somebody wants to persuade you there is no harm with mating other breeds - try to do following:
Take a glass and pour 50 ml of fresh made coffee into it , 50 ml yoghurt, 50 ml tomato juice and 50 ml of stiff tea. Mix up all ingredients and look at the mixture, taste it and answer what you have got?!
There is an opinion (especially in Russia) that British and Scottish Fold cats are the same breed. I would recommend to read the breed standard and look at the real Scottish Fold cats at their home in USA.
And mind: Scottish Fold cat may give a birth ONLY to Scottish Fold or Scottish Straight. A British cannot have a Scottish fold as its parent!
3. Show, Breed, Pet

If you need just a pet for your children and yourself, if you are not going to
participate in Cats Shows and apply yourself to cats breeding then buy a kitten
of PET quality. A BREED quality kitten can be used for breeding when grown up.
Kittens of SHOW quality are rare, they will be used both for breeding and show career.

 
4. Male or female

Males are usually bigger and more easy-going in nature than females. As a rule, females express their feelings at their heat period, when they are pregnant or nurse kittens. Proverb saying "A cat walks on its own", probably it makes sense.

 
5. Color

In the present time the breed numbers 120 colors. CFA recognizes only some of them. Blue color is the British Shorthair original color. Usually people who want to have a pet at home prefer just a blue kitten. But this is a matter of taste.
